Vendrell Rived "Le Miloquera" Garnatxa '21

We are thrilled to have the wines of Josep Maria Vendrell Rived back in Chicago.



This longtime grower is also one of the region's most under-the-radar producers. He started producing wine in 2000, after working at the local Capçanes cooperative and originally selling the grapes that he farms. In fact, when he began making his own wines, the region had not been classified to Montsant DO, but still the wines of the great Tarragona appellation.  His vineyards, many of which are old-vines, are located in Marçà and Capçanes. 



Vendrell's vineyards are farmed organically without synthetic fertilizers, pesticides or herbicides. They are continuously plowed not only for weed management, but to encourage deep root growth. By doing this, the grapes will inevitably show the underlying character of the terroir but also be more resistant to drought. 



For several years Josep Maria has produced two wines under the La Miloquera label. One made entirely from Carinyena, and this wine made from 100% Garnatxa (Grenache). This wine comes from 90+ year old vines in the La Pedrenyeres vineyard. Fermented in stainless steel and aged for 12 months in French oak, the idea is to show the purity of old-vine Grenache from Montsant. Full-bodied, with high toned red fruit, spice, cocoa and herb notes. Incredibly complex, this has great length and richness. Just 919 bottles were produced, making this a special wine to serve to family and friends.
