Tenuta di Valgiano "Palistorti" Bianco IGT '23

Tenuta di Valgiano, win the hills above the Tuscan city of Lucca, was established in 1992 and is surrounded by almost 200 acres of forestland. Moreno Petrini and Laura di Collobiano are the owners and winemakers, and their 40 acres of vineyards are certified organic and certified biodynamic by Demeter.

The “Palistorti” bianco is composed of 40% Trebbiano, 40% Vermentino, and 20% Malvasia and Grechetto, harvested from estate vineyards. The wine’s name is a reference to the crooked posts that mark each row in the vineyard; the rocky, uneven surface makes it difficult to plant posts straight into the ground, so the posts are angled. The vines average 30 years in age. The grapes are manually harvested and fermented with indigenous yeasts; the Vermentino is destemmed, macerated for a few hours, and fermented in older French oak barrels, while the others are fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. The wine is blended and then aged on fine lees in tank for six months. Bottled unfiltered and lightly fined.

The nose shows notes of citrus peel, white peach, white flowers, almonds, and fresh herbs. Medium-bodied on the palate, it’s a great wine to pair with white fish, mushroom risotto, herb-marinated chicken, or a simple snack of anchovies on buttered bread or crackers.
