Tatomer Pinot Noir Santa Barbara County '22

Graham Tatomer’s interest in wine began when he was just a teenager working at Santa Barbara Winery, but it wasn’t until years later that a local job grew into a passion. Lafond Winery and its vineyard, home to among the oldest Riesling plantings in the region, is where the passion was sparked. Not long after, he decided to move to the Wachau, in Austria, and found a lifelong mentor in Emmerich Knoll.

Graham founded his own winery in 2008, and while his wines reflect an Austrian influence, they distinctly belong to the terroir of Santa Barbara. Beautifully precise and detailed, they have a unique charm and idiosyncratic quality that could only come from someone who was born and raised in the region.

This bottling is made solely from Pinot Noir, a blend of multiple clones and vineyards around Sta. Rita Hills AVA. All the vineyards are farmed sustainably, and the fruit is harvested by hand. Each clone is separately fermented in small batches, with 50% whole cluster fermentation. There is one punch-down per day during primary fermentation, and, after a gentle pressing, the wine is aged for about 12 months in French oak (10% to 15% new). The wine is bottled without fining or filtration.

A beautiful California Pinot Noir, with notes of raspberry, wild strawberry, rose petals, and hints of spice and cedar. Pair this alongside a classic roasted chicken.
