Scar of the Sea is a project of Mikey Giugni, who started the winery in 2012, and Gina, his wife, who also manages the winery Scar of the Sea. Their wineries are in San Luis Obispo, California, and both are dedicated to sustainable farming, with a focus on tradition, innovation, and a deep connection to the land and to the people who farm it. Many of the vineyards they work with are heritage sites. The winemaking is carried out with as little intervention as possible, using natural yeast fermentations and mostly neutral oak barrels, avoiding fining and filtering, and with a minimal amount of SO2 used throughout the wine production process.
“Vino de los Ranchos” is made of Chardonnay grown at the Rancho Viñedo vineyard, located in the Santa Maria Valley. It is aged for 18 months on the lees in neutral French oak barrels. Just 562 cases were produced.
