Friuli Venezia Giulia
In Colli Orientali del Friuli, Ronchi di Cialla is in the isolated, small, cool valley of Cialla, prized for its high proportion of limestone soils. It was founded in 1970 by Paolo and Dina Rapuzzi and is now run by their sons Pierpaolo and Ivan, who have continued the winery’s focus on indigenous varieties.
“Cialla Bianco” is a blend of Ribolla Gialla, Picolit, and Verduzzo, from 40-plus-year-old vines grown on terraced hillside parcels. The wine was fermented in barrique, then aged for 11 months in barrel and 20 months in bottle. The wine shows notes of pear, yellow apple, white fig, and yellow plum, along with vanilla, a touch of baking spices, and floral notes of acacia and honeysuckle. On the palate, it’s dry and medium-plus in body, with well-balanced acidity and seashell minerality. Pair it with a creamy, garlicky seafood pasta, veal piccata, or quiche.
White wines of this caliber from Friuli are typically two to three times this price, so don't miss this excellent value!
