Jura
Désiré Rolet began making wine in the Jura in 1942. In 1958, his four children took over from their father, and their success allowed them to acquire prime old vine vineyards in the appellations of Arbois, Côtes du Jura, Étoile, and Château-Chalon. Since June 2018, the Devillard family, also winegrowers in Burgundy, along with the Flambert and Dupuis families, have acquired the Rolet estate. Under the guidance of the winemaker Cédric Ducoté, the wines show the same spirit as those of the Rolet family, authentically reflecting the Jura region. The estate vinifies only the grapes grown from their vineyards using sustainable and organic viticulture methods.
This bottling was made of Trousseau from 40-plus-year-old vines grown in clay and gravel soils. The grapes were hand-harvested, destemmed, and fermented using native yeasts. The wine was then aged for nine months, half in barrel and half in steel vats.
This is a lovely expression of Trousseau, more elegant than rustic, with aromas of ripe wild strawberry, redcurrant, violet, rosemary, and bay leaf. Medium-plus in body, with moderate tannins and moderate-plus acidity, it’s a great partner with a range of flavorful foods, from braised mushrooms with herbs to roasted chicken or duck.
