Owned by the Cali family, Rocca di Castagnoli may be Chianti Classico’s largest estate in acreage planted to vine. This does not hinder the thriving estate to produce some of the most distinguished examples of Chianti Classico. By bottling only the very best from their production, results of great typical character have been achieved. Also contributing to this character is the soil, Galestro, which is a stone look alike, compacted form of clay which captures high amounts of minerals.
This Chianti Classico is Sangiovese dominant, blended with local variety Canaiolo and Colorino, which contributes to freshness and depth in color. Aging consists of 3 months in stainless steel, 12 months large oval barrels of various sizes and then 6 months bottle to rest before release. Expect classic dark cherry notes alongside savory hints of fresh herbs and tomato. This wine is very approachable.
