Ridge Vineyards is most celebrated for its iconic Monte Bello bottling, yet its work with Zinfandel and other white and red varieties has garnered it much praise in the decades since its founding, in 1962. Ridge is also among the first producers to list the “ingredients” on the labels of its wine. At a time when many wines from California became industrialized, produced with yeast, enzymes and other additives, Ridge reaffirmed its commitment to pre-industrialized winemaking with its practices as well as its labeling.
The 2023 Grenache Blanc is a blend of 84% Grenache Blanc, 14% Picpoul, and 2% Roussanne, selected from three different vineyards in Paso Robles. The grapes were whole-cluster pressed and fermented with native yeasts, and the wine was aged for five months in a combination of American oak barrels and concrete tank. Medium bodied and refreshing on the palate, with notes of white peach, brioche, honeydew, pear, and wet stone.
