Quinta do Romeu Tinto "Especial" Douro '15

This is a red wine for everyone. Those who like both new world and old world wines alike will be impressed by the incredible depth and balance of this special red wine. The 2015 red “Especial” is a blend of the Portuguese varieties Touriga Nacional and Sousão.

Like the Branco “Especial,” the best grapes of the estate are used for Tinto “Especial.” They are hand-picked, destemmed, and gently crushed. Spontaneous co-fermentation takes place in a granite tank called a lagar. The skins are punched down twice a day. After pressing in a vertical press, the wine is then aged for 12 months in 500-liter Austrian oak barrels with a light toast, both new and used. 

Beautiful aromas of wild fruits and flowers along with woodsy notes. Very elegant and textured, with medium body and a dense yet precise structure. Good concentration with fresh acidity, intense minerality, and red fruit. A very long and balanced finish.

This can be drunk know, but it also has outstanding aging potential, drinking through 2030+.

This calls out for grilled meats, such as lamb chops or rib eye.
