Quinta do Ameal "Escolha" Loureiro '14

Pedro Araújo has worked tirelessly for over 20 years proving to the wine world that world-class white wine can be made in Vinho Verde. A specialist of the Loureiro variety, documents going back to before 1710 show the importance of the vineyard to the nearby convent of Refóios de Lima. Ameal owns 12 ha of vines planted into the classic granite soil of the region, all organically farmed. Ameal produces a trio of white wines.

“Escolha” is the top white wine of the estate. Produced entirely of Loureiro from two different parcels on the Ameal estate, it is the only white wine to be barrel fermented. Ameal uses old oak barrels for the fermentation, and the wine is kept in those barrels for six months, with some lees stirring during that period

Beautiful aromas of stone fruit and citrus peel are highlights of the nose. The wine glides across the palate and finishes with well-framed acidity and an underlying minerality.
