The oldest historic records to mention the Quinta da Pellada date back to 1570. The Dão was awarded DO status in 1908. Alvaro Castro inherited this historic estate in 1980. It's the source of his oldest vines, and best terroir. Like Castro's other reds, this is a field blend, aged for almost two years in 5 year-old french barrels. This is a serious wine of terroir, tightly wound, dense, and layered. It will repay time in the cellar. A pinnacle in the expression of the Dão, this is not to be missed! Decant if drinking now, or hold through 2030+.
