Tuscany
Founded in 1991, the Poggio Scalette estate, with about a hundred acres under vine, is owned by Vittorio and Adriana Assje di Marcorá-Fiore. Vittorio and Jurij Fiore are the winemakers. The grapes for this wine are sourced from vineyards in the village of Ruffoli, located in Greve, Chianti.
Made from 100% Sangiovese di Lamole, the wine is fermented in cement vats for 10 days, then aged in cement vats for ten months before bottling. The nose shows classic Sangiovese notes, with ripe black and red cherry, blackberries, and fig, as well as dried herbs, tobacco, balsamic, earth, and camphor. On the palate, the wine is fruit-forward, with notes of cherry pit, moderately bitter tannins and a dry, firm finish.
Give this wine a quick decant and pair it with a range of savory dishes, from herb-rich meatballs (with any meat) to tomato-based pastas and stews. A quick decanting will help the wine show at its best.
