Located near Modena, Paltrinieri is a family winery that has been dedicated to producing Lambruso di Sorbara since 1926 and, since 1986, has been run by the fourth-generation husband-and-wife duo of Alberto and Barbara. Paltrinieri is a benchmark producer for Lambrusco di Sorbara, a zone that lies between the Panaro and Secchia rivers, and the estate comprises 17 hectares of vineyards.
Paltrinieri’s Lambrusco di Sorbara bottlings tend to be dry, lightly sparkling, with light color and crisp acidity. “Radice” (which means roots, signifying the estate’s origins) is composed of 100% Lambrusco di Sorbara, sourced from 15 hectares of sustainably farmed vines at the Cristo di Sorbara vineyard. The fruit is hand-harvested. The free-run juice is vinified without skin contact, and fermentation occurs with native yeasts in temperature-controlled steel tanks with native yeasts. The juice rests on the lees for 60 to 75 days. The second fermentation (metodo ancestrale is carried out in bottle (rifermentato in bottiglia/metodo ancestrale) for around 90 days, also with indigenous yeasts.
A wine with bracing acidity, and notes of grapefruit pith, tart cherry, pomegranate, wildflowers, sun-dried tomato, and bread dough. Bone-dry and delicious, with only 11% ABV, it’s a great choice for an aperitif and a versatile wine for food pairing, equally great with seafood crudo, tempura, gnocco fritto, salumi, pasta al ragù, and tortellini in brodo.
