Old Bardstown Estate Bottled Bourbon (101 Proof)
Old Bardstown was the name given to a Thoroughbred racehorse in the 1950's that gained notoriety by winning over 18 races. Named after Bardstown, Kentucky, home to the Willett Distillery where "Old Bardstown Bourbon" is produced. The bourbon is made from a mash of primarily corn, which is milled and mashed before being fermented with Kentucky limestone water. Following fermentation, the wash is distilled before the bourbon is matured for ten years in new, American oak casks. Then, the bourbon is brought to 101 proof before being bottled. Nose is sweet, herbal, citrus. The palate is herbaceous, sweet fruit, vanilla, on a layer of oak and earthiness that goes on like a champion marathon runner.
