    Mixtura Blanco '20

Born and raised in Galicia, Gutier Seijo Otero became passionate about wine at a young age. He is a first-generation winemaker who went to enology school in both Spain and Bordeaux. He traveled around the world, working at top wineries in their respective regions, and eventually settled back in Galicia, where he was inspired to start Mixtura. This is a project that speaks to the terroir of the rivers. Most of the world’s greatest wines come from river valleys, and in Galicia this is no exception.

Guti renovated a cellar in San Clodio, in the heart of the Ribeiro region, in Galicia. It is a small, simple winery, with a special pneumatic press, cement vats from Italy, and Stockinger barrels from Austria. Most notably, Guti identified exceptional vineyards to work with in three locations. His Treixadura comes from vineyards in the village of Berán, in the heart of the Ribeiro region, and it is a zone whose features help preserve freshness in the wines. His Albariño comes from two places: the Condado do Tea subzone of Rías Baixas, an area that straddles the Tea river; and Melgaço, near the Minho River, across the border in Portugal. These vineyards are the foundation for the Mixtura wines, the Mixtura Blanco is the core of the project.

Mixtura 2020 is made with Treixadura and Albariño from three different plots, each exposed to different climates. The Treixadura comes exclusively from the Ribeiro area, hand harvested in different vineyards at altitudes between 90 and 200 meters, with soils of sábrego (decomposed granite). Grape bunches are hand harvested. Fermentation is carried out with native yeasts in large format Stockinger foudres, followed by 12 months in the same barrels on the lees. The wine is then racked into concrete eggs, where it develops for 12 months. Bottled unfined and unfiltered, with minimal sulfur at bottling.

The aromas combine citrus and stone fruit, hints of sweet spices and minerality. The wine is medium bodied, with a silky quality. The finish is long and fresh, with the complexity that defines a great wine. Pair this with richer shellfish dishes, such as a lobster risotto.
