Japan
Fuyu means winter in Japanese, a time when roasted chestnuts are a popular snack for all. This special winter release in the classic Iwai Tradition is finished for 4 months in Japanese chestnut casks. These casks add a subtle sweetness and pleasant bitterness to this inherently rich and malty whisky. A blended whiskey (70% barley / 30% corn) that is additionally aged (finished) by putting Iwai Tradition in a Japanese chestnut barrel. A fairly uncommon finishing for whisky, the chestnut wood gives an added layer of depth and richness. The broad palate of Iwai Tradition is enhanced with a creaminess and nuttiness not found in the original Iwai Tradition. Notes of toffee and tobacco, with a slightly bitter nutty finish.
