Loire Valley
Continuing with our exploration of Loire Valley white wines, the 2023 Luneau-Papin “La Grange” offers a clear expression of Muscadet from one of the region’s most thoughtful and consistent producers. The Luneau-Papin family has been farming in the Sèvre et Maine since the early 1990s, with Pierre-Marie and Marie Luneau at the helm, working from their base in Le Landreau. From the outset, the domaine has focused on organic farming, low yields, and bottling wines that reflect individual sites rather than blending for uniformity.
“La Grange” comes from vineyards rooted in gneiss and granite soils, typical of the eastern reaches of the appellation and well suited to Melon de Bourgogne. These rocky, well-drained soils contribute to the wine’s tension and saline character, while extended aging on the lees adds texture without softening its precision. Farming is organic, and cellar work is restrained, allowing the wine to speak clearly of place and season.
On the nose, fresh citrus, green apple, and a light marine note. The palate is clean and energetic, with fine texture, bright acidity, and a mineral-driven finish that lingers. This is classic Muscadet for the table, pairing naturally with oysters, clams, or simply steamed fish with herbs and olive oil.
