    La Posta "Armando" Bonarda '22

While there has been much speculation of its origin over the years, and though there are many names this variety goes by, one point of agreement is how popular Bonarda has become thanks to Argentinian viticulture. It is the second most widely planted variety in Argentina, right behind Malbec. This bottling of Bonarda is one of the country’s best, made by two of Argentina’s best winemakers today: Laura Catena and Luis Reginato.  Both are pioneering winemakers and created La Posta to produce distinctive grower-specific wines that invite wine drinkers to explore Mendoza’s many regions.

La Posta translates to “the tavern,” where the farmers meet to discuss their soils, their vines, and their latest aspirations. Each label acknowledges a family of growers with La Posta.  The “Armando” Bonarda bottling represents Estela Armando and her grandfather’s half-century-old Bonarda vineyard. Bonarda is a late-harvesting variety, achieving intense color and flavor, and is a great option for fans of Zinfandel or Cabernet Sauvignon.

For this bottling, about a third of the wine is aged in second- and third-use French barrels for ten months. This shows off the opulence of Bonarda, with ripe notes of raspberry and cherry. Medium plus in body, with subtle layers of oak spice alongside the bright fruit. Finishes with a soft dusting of tannins and bright acidity on the long finish. An easy-drinking red for any occasion.
