    Künstler Estate Riesling Trocken '22

    Künstler Estate Riesling Trocken '22

The history of Weingut Künstler dates back to 1648 near Vienna, where the family grew grapes on their estate until the Second World War. In 1965, Franz Künstler reestablished the estate in the village of Hochheim am Main, on the banks of the Main River, in the Rheingau region. In 1992 his son Gunter took over the estate, and in 1994 the estate was admitted to the VDP (an organization for Germany’s top wines and estates).

The vineyard area is about 35 hectares, and the soils here are mostly loess, clay, sand, loam, marl, and limestone. In the cellar, musts settle by gravity and are pressed clear. Both cask and stainless steel vessels are used, though cask plays a greater role, providing an ideal level of micro-oxygenation. The wines are consistently pure, clean, and precise, while beautifully transmitting their terroir.

The Künstler Estate Riesling Trocken is made from Riesling sourced from multiple estate vineyards. The grapes are fermented naturally, mostly in stainless steel, with 30% in large, used barrel. Beautiful notes of white flowers, ripe apple, and salinity on the nose. Bone dry, with bright, refreshing acidity and a long finish. Delicious.

Pair this Riesling with tikka masala, teriyaki salmon, or kassler Rippchen (smoked pork loin) and roasted sweet potatoes.
