Francesca Fiasco "Difesa" Paestum Rosso '17

Francesca Fiasco is a true dynamo, creating this tiny estate in the Cilento national park of Campania. Inspired by her Nonno, and his work over the years in his beautiful vineyards, she produces just three red wines.

Difesa is a blend of Aglianico, Barbera, Cabernet Sauvignon, and other local varieties. Vinified in a 50-hectoliter barrel, the juice is on the skins for around 20 days with daily punch downs and pumping over the juice. The wine is aged in tonneaux for 18 months, and then another year in bottle before release.

Francesca intended to release wines with some barrel and bottle age, as she wants them showing their best on release. This full-bodied red is so complex, with notes of dark plum, cherry, anise, and spice. This appeals to new-world and old-world drinkers alike, and is an all-around exceptional bottle. We are fortunate to be the first people outside Italy to sell it. A must-try!
