Fattoria di Sammontana "Alberese" Toscano Rosso '21
The vines and olive groves of Fattoria Sammontana, located in the village of Montelupo, run along the hill that borders the valley of the Arno river. The winery and its 12th-century Roman church were once the property of the Medici family. Later, the property was donated to the canons of San Lorenzo in Florence, who enjoyed the protection and benevolence of the Medici dynasty. They built the underground cantinas and also a furnace with which they produced terracotta pottery.
In 1870, the entire property was purchased by a Polish nobleman named Michele Dzieduszycki. He was living at the Imperial Court in Vienna at the time but loved to spend time in the Tuscan countryside. His son, Maurizio, specialized in art and Renaissance literature, and eventually married an Italian woman. Maurizio and his wife moved permanently to Tuscany and raised their family there. Today, Maurizio's son, Massimo, has turned Fattoria di Sammontana into an agricultural property devoted to honest wine and olive oil. Organic and biodynamic viticulture are practiced
The name of this wine pays homage to the limestone-based Alberese soil that predominates in the Chianti area and in which the Sangiovese grape thrives. A blend of 80% Sangiovese and 20% Trebbiano Toscano, the vines average 30–50 years in age, and the grapes are harvested manually. Fermentation is carried out spontaneously, in stainless steel and cement vats, with short maceration on the skins. Bottled without clarification or filtration.
Easy drinking and light bodied, and showing a balance or earthy and fruity notes. Drink it lightly chilled.
