    Elena Fucci "Verha" Rosso '24

The Vulture zone of Basilicata is one of Italy’s great under-the-radar red-wine terroirs, shaped by an ancient dormant volcano and cooled by altitude. That combination gives Aglianico here a distinctive profile: depth and structure, but also real freshness and a savory, volcanic edge.
Elena Fucci is the modern reference point in Barile. She founded her winery in 2000, essentially to keep her family from selling the vineyards surrounding the home where she grew up—sites her grandfather Generoso had purchased in the 1960s in the prized zone of Solagna del Titolo. Starting with a single, laser-focused vision of Aglianico from Vulture (Titolo), she helped put this remote corner of southern Italy on the world map, and she farms with a deep commitment to biodynamic principles.

2024 “Verha” Rosso is her intentionally more everyday, drink-now red, and it also carries a local mission: the Verha project was created to support neighboring growers in Barile and help keep their vineyards from being abandoned. It’s 100% Aglianico, with 12 days of fermentation in stainless steel, then 6 months in steel and 6 months in bottle (no oak), keeping the wine pure, energetic, and versatile at the table.

Beautiful notes of ripe raspberry and blueberry, offset by savory herbs. Such a fresh and enjoyable style of Aglianico. Think of this as a go-to red for pizza night, or a perfect match for your favorite roasted lamb recipe.
