California
Desire Lines is the work of Cody and Emily Rasmussen, a husband-and-wife team who moved to California from the Midwest in 2011. In 2013, Cody started working as assistant winemaker at Bedrock Wine Co. (where he is now head winemaker), and a few years later they made their first wine, establishing Desire Lines.
Working with carefully farmed vineyards throughout Northern California, an area that is home to a stunningly rich assortment of historically significant and distinctive vineyards, they produce singular wines of character that are faithful to their vineyard sources and absolutely delicious.
This is Desire Lines’s first white wine from Santa Barbara County, which presented them with a challenge as well as an exciting opportunity. After pressing the grapes, the juice underwent a short period of cold settling in tank, then was moved to barrel for fermentation (a combination of second- and third-fill Stockinger 228-liter barrels, neutral 300-liter puncheons, and neutral 320-liter cigare-shaped puncheons).
This is classic Chenin Blanc that will please even the most die-hard fan of old-world versions from the Loire Valley. Aromatic notes of sea spray, candied lemon peel, and stone fruit. The texture glides across the palate, and we love how the hints of oxidation add to the complexity
