COZs "c2-Baga" Vinho Tinto '15

This is about a big of a deep cut in Portuguese wine that you will find. I guarantee, I'm the only shop in the United States that has this. This was the first bottling from the Portuguese dream team, Tiago Teles and António Marquez da Cruz. Tiago was a long time admirer and friend of the obscure Quinta dos Cozinheiros winery. When the proprietor passed away, Tiago and António approached the family about renting their vineyard, which is just a handful of kilometers away from the Atlantic. The duo worked incredibly hard to "resuscitate" the vineyard, and for two years produced a red from the Baga grape variety. I've had this tucked away for a few years, as I knew it needed time. Opening a bottle recently, this is starting to really show the amazing, wild beauty of the variety. It still has the acidity and tannin and structure you expect, but it is showing its wild, sour red fruit, herbs and spice notes. What a wine, and blast from the past!
