Loire Valley
Couly-Dutheil was established in 1921 by Baptiste Dutheil, and, after René Couly married into the family in 1928 and helped elevate its winemaking reputation, the estate’s success grew over the following decades. More than a century since its founding, Couly-Dutheil still belongs to the same family and today is led by the father-and-son team of Jacques and Arnaud. The domaine comprises about 120 hectares of vineyards, practices sustainable viticulture, and is focused on growing Cabernet Franc and Chenin Blanc, which are best suited to the climate and soils of the area.
The fruit for this bottling of Cabernet Franc is harvested from vineyards planted on alluvial sandy and gravel soils as well as clay and flint (silex) soils. The wine is fermented with natural yeast and vinified in stainless steel tanks. The name "Pur Sans" is in reference to the lack of addition of any sulphur dioxide in the process.
On the nose, the wine offers notes of red and black berries, blackcurrant, lilacs, sage, baking spices, and tobacco, with an earthy minerality. Medium in body, it will pair well with grilled vegetables, charcuterie, chicken fajitas, or alongside duck confit and scallion-and-parsley potatoes.
