Château Laubarit Bordeaux Rouge '20

Château Laubarit is a deeply rooted family estate located in Saint-Pierre-de-Bat, in the heart of the Entre-Deux-Mers Haut-Benauge. The property has remained in the Dumas and Simonneau families since 1780, a continuity that places it among Bordeaux’s quietly enduring domaines. In 1965, Pierre-Abel and Nicole Simonneau assumed stewardship of the estate, later passing it to their son Florent and his wife Isabelle, who continue to guide Laubarit today with a rare combination of tradition and conviction.

Environmental responsibility has been central to Laubarit for decades. The vineyards have been certified organic since 1965 and biodynamic since 2002, making it one of the longest-standing and most rigorously farmed estates in Bordeaux. These practices are not philosophical gestures but practical tools, allowing the vineyard’s character to speak clearly through the wine.

The terroir here is particularly compelling: thick, fractured layers of limestone and clay, capped with iron-rich loess topsoil. It is an ideal setting for Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, varieties that find both structure and generosity in these soils. Entre-Deux-Mers Haut-Benauge itself remains one of Bordeaux’s underappreciated subregions, capable of producing wines of balance and authenticity rather than excess.

The 2020 Bordeaux Rouge is a classic expression of the region, a fantastic wine for everyday drinking. Notes of red berries, cassis, herbs and mineral. The wine is medium bodied, with soft tannins and excellent freshness and balance.  

At the table, this is a natural partner for roast meats, grilled vegetables, or simple country dishes.
