Patagonia
Bodega Chacra was founded in 2004 by Piero Incisa della Rocchetta, the grandson of the founder of the famed Sassicaia winery in Tuscany. Nestled in the Río Negro Valley in northern Patagonia, the estate lies roughly equidistant between the Andes and the Atlantic, in a high-desert climate moderated by river channels fed from the mountains.
Piero acquired an abandoned vineyard planted in 1932 and later added parcels planted in 1955 and 1967, rescuing ungrafted vines and re-establishing them under biodynamic and organic principles. His approach has always been minimalist — spontaneous fermentations, no fining or filtration, and a deep respect for the living ecosystem. The name “Chacra” itself evokes the notion of a field or small farm in the region, fitting for a project so rooted in place and natural rhythms.
The 2024 Chacra “Cincuenta y Cinco” Pinot Noir is born from vines planted in 1955 on the sands and gravels of Mainqué in the Río Negro Valley of Patagonia. These old, ungrafted vines rest atop riverbed soils that impart crystalline minerality, and the fruit is handled with the lightest possible touch. Fermented with 100 % whole clusters at low temperature and aged in neutral vessels, this wine emphasizes perfume, structure, and tension over overt richness.
Expect aromas of violet, rose petal, wild cherry, and saline earth, leading to a palate of red berries, subtle spice, fine-grained tannins, and a long, fresh finish. A very elegant and etherial style that can work with so many foods, but we’d suggest keeping it simple, paring alongside roasted chicken with root vegetables. A world class Pinot Noir!
