Casal de Armán "Eira dos Mouros" Tinto '19

Casal de Armán was founded in the late 1990s by the González family, who has been making Ribeiro wines since the 19th century. Located in San Andres, in Galicia, the winery property is actually an 18th-century court. The estate comprises 50 acres of vineyards located within the Ribeiro do Avia region, where indigenous varieties such as Treixadura, Godello, Loureira, Brencellao, Caíño, and Sousón are cultivated. The winery’s terraces, with heights ranging from 650 to 1,200 feet above sea level, are located on the Avia’s riverbanks, and the soils include granite, sand, and slate.

In the Galician language, eira means “medicine woman,” or “shaman,” a sort of nature doctor, still present in Galicia’s towns. Mouros translates to “little walls for wine terraces.” So eira dos mouros translates to “medicine woman of the walled terraced vineyard.”

Made solely of estate fruit, the “Eira dos Mouros” tinto is a blend of 50% Sousón, 40% Caiño Longo, and 10% Brancello. Fermentation is carried out in stainless steel, and the wine is aged for 11 months in stainless steel and then in bottle for 4–5 months before release. Medium bodied, refreshing, and versatile, it pairs well with roasted chicken, grilled salmon, tuna belly, and roasted vegetables.
