The 2019 Montecillo Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon comes from one of the great old hillside sites of Sonoma’s Moon Mountain District, farmed for decades by Chuy Ordaz, who has tended these steep, terraced vines for nearly fifty years. Planted in 1964, the vineyard is head-trained and dry-farmed on heroic terraces carved into the Mayacamas Mountains, rooted in striking red volcanic soils rich in iron. In a vintage like 2019, Montecillo seems to flourish effortlessly, allowing the winemaking to remain intentionally hands-off. The wine is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, bottled unfined and unfiltered after nearly two years in barrel. In the glass, it is pure yet expressive, with notes of black plum, graphite, wild bay, and black pepper spice. The palate shows depth and structure drawn from old-vine density—darkly fruited, brooding, and clearly built for a long life. Only 100 cases were produced.
