Rioja
“Bahierra” comes from a small, high-elevation vineyard of five terraces, planted at 845 meters. The site is a true field blend, with 50% Tempranillo, 20% Garnacha, and 30% white grapes (Garnacha Blanca, Calagraño, and Roja). Fermentation is spontaneous, with partial whole cluster, and the wine is aged in large-format wood before finishing in concrete egg.
A very complex nose that combines dark berries, with hints at grapefruit, flowers and menthol. On the palate, this is ripe yet juicy, with chalky tannins yet good freshness. Give this a little time in a decanter before serving, and pair with a rack of lamb rubbed with rosemary and garlic.
Production is tiny, at only around 900 bottles.
