Southern Rhône
Vallot "Le Coriançon" Vinsobres '17
In their fifth generation of production, Domaine Vallot is a leader in quality in the appellation of Vinsobres. The appellation which first gained AOC status in 2006 sits in the northern part of the Southern Rhône, north of appellations such as Gigondas and Vacqueryas. High altitude vineyards are planted in rocky, limestone rich soil. Anaïs Vallot’s flagship Cru Vinsobres is made from her estate-grown, certified organic (since the 1990’s!) and biodynamically farmed (since 2007) Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre grapes from hillside plots. These are amongst the most elegant, age-worthy wines in the Southern Rhône with the freshness and finesse that the wines of Vinsobres are known for. This Cuvée is aged in concrete and bottled without added sulfur to amplify its freshness and vibrancy. A warmly spiced nose of Mediterranean herbs leads to a brighter than expected palate dominated by saturated fruit with beautiful perfume. The finish lingers with a resinous quality and finally leaving you with a salty limestone finish with just a whiff of fruit leather. While there is a ton of bright fruit here, there is also ripe tannin that structures the wine beautifully. We’d be thrilled to drink this alongside a classic Maxwell Street Polish Sausage, but it certainly has the stuffing to pair with a spread of Kebab Skewers and Kashkeh Bademjoon (eggplant and dried yogurt dip) from Kabobi on Kedzie.
