Thibaud Boudignon Anjou Rosé '22
Thibaud Boudignon has quickly emerged as one of the top producers in the Loire. It’s a welcome surprise when, although we think we’ve seen it all, a new great talent emerges and captivates us from such a historic wine region. After gaining experience and notoriety through winemaking in Gevrey-Chambertin and Savennières, Thibaud began to make wine in the early 2000s under his own name, from a scant 3.5 hectares in the heart of Anjou, with a wine cellar on the outskirts, near Savennières. Knowing that the quality of his fruit was the most important detail on which to focus, he committed himself to the health of his vines, choosing to farm organically, and now biodynamically, by spending the majority of his time in the vineyards. It’s no wonder that his name caught the attention of Loire’s vignerons as well as Parisian wine bars, and eventually became known globally.
This is the only wine he produces that is not white or made from Chenin Blanc. Thibaud makes it with the same intention and integrity with which he makes his white wines, capturing the subtleties of texture, minerality, and fruit character, ultimately conveying a sense of place. The cépage is primarily Cabernet Franc, blended with about 10% Grolleau. The wine is a direct press rosé, put into tank for a brief period of time, around four months, capturing the salinity from the schist and volcanic-rich soils.
The salinity and bright minerality, accompanied by vibrant notes of wild red berries, brings you back sip after sip. Given the quality and love that goes into this wine, it is an excellent value, and it is a rosé that everyone will enjoy. We strongly suggest you have a second bottle chilling for when the first runs out.
