Tuscany
Tenuta Le Colonne is a relatively young project, established in 2016 by the Bulgheroni family, in Donoratico, in the southernmost part of the Bolgheri appellation. This area of western Tuscany, in the Livorno province, overlooks the sea, whose moderating breezes help slow ripening; the water also reflects sunlight, intensifying Bolgheri’s luminosity. Tenuta le Colonne has about 60 hectares of vineyards, including some only a few steps from the beach. The estate is certified organic.
Bolgheri is planted to more red grapes than white in terms of land area, and, among the white varieties, Vermentino occupies the most hectarage. Tenuta le Colonne’s Vermentino is vinified at cool temperatures and fermented in stainless steel for about two weeks, then aged in stainless steel for three months.
On the nose, notes of green apple, pear, and lemon are complemented with light aromas of peach and tropical fruit, as well as soft notes of fresh herbs. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied, with a great balance of fresh fruit flavors and a crisp, mineral finish. A great wine to pair with risotto made with asparagus and pesto, and a range of poultry and seafood dishes as well.
