Tenuta Casali "Quartosole" Sangiovese San Vicinio Riserva '16
Tenuta Casali is a small, family run winery located in Mercato Saraceno, in the Romagna DOC. The Savio valley that Tenuta Casali lies within doesn't have extensive swaths of arable land. The Casali vineyards climb up from the river, headed into the hills, all surrounded by forest on either side. From these vineyards, Tenuta Casali produce a trio of Sangiovese wines. Very few people talk about the wines of the Romagna region, but authentic, delicious wines are made here. Tenuta Casali is a family affair, founded by Valerio and Paolo in 1978 to carry on a vision that started with their grandfather Mario’s small farm. The family-run business now covers an area of 50 hectares, with 20 hectares of vineyards, and is driven by the enthusiasm of a new generation: Silvia, Francesco, and Daniele. Vinification and aging take place in the family wine cellar, which is equipped with solar panels.
This Tenuta Casali riserva was born from manually selected grapes from the Baruccia vineyard, in the San Vicinio sub zone, from vines planted in 1990. It is an austere and refined Sangiovese that was aged for 13 months in 20-hectoliter wooden casks. Aromas of black fruits, herbs, and mint are combined with a silky, tannic texture and a roundness on the palate, finishing with a savory taste.
