Sister's Run "Old Testament" Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon '20

Sister's Run "Old Testament" Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon '20

Sister’s Run is the project of winemaker Elena Brooks and her talented team, with a focus on sourcing fruit from single-site, family-run vineyards throughout South Australia. The “Old Testament” vineyard was planted in the early 1990s in the heart of Coonawarra, an area of the Limestone Coast celebrated for its terra rossa, “red soil” (a band of friable clay loam overlaying soft limestone, tinted red by iron oxide), one of the most distinct terroirs and considered the most suitable topsoil for Cabernet Sauvignon in Australia. The vineyard is owned and farmed by David Wittwer, who works without synthetic pesticides or herbicides.

The grapes for this bottling were harvested by hand, and the bunches were carefully sorted and destemmed. Fermentation lasted for about 12 days, and the wine then spent six days on the skins. After being basket-pressed, it was moved to French barriques, where it aged for 13 months.

Bright notes of blackberry, plum, mocha, and cinnamon, and violets define the nose, with fresh acidity balancing the characteristically firm Cabernet tannins and the juicy berry flavors. Decant this and try it with slow-braised meats, steak, or meat-topped pizza.
