    Romaine Chamiot Mondeuse '22

    Romaine Chamiot Mondeuse '22

The Chamiot family has owned vineyards in the Apremont appellation of Savoie for several generations, and Romain Chamiot is now in charge. The estate, under Mt. Granier, consists of seven hectares, covering 30 parcels, mostly planted to the local white variety Jacquère, but there is also a small amount of the red variety Mondeuse. Many of the vineyards are planted to old vines, the majority 40 to 50 years of age, with some parcels reaching 80 years from the original date of planting. The Mondeuse is from a 0.2-hectare hillside parcel of these 80-year-old vines. Harvest usually extends over a two-week period and is carried out parcel by parcel as the grapes ripen. After a natural fermentation in stainless steel, with 100% whole cluster, the wine spends a year in older barriques before bottling.

This is a vibrant, generous bottling of Mondeuse, the old vines lending it a concentrated fruit character. Mondeuse is bright, with well-integrated acidity and tannins. Aromas range from red and black fruits, such as plum, raspberry, and cherry, to floral notes of violet and spice notes of  white pepper and cinnamon. Pair it with coq au vin, duck, lamb chops, or roasted portobello burgers with Gouda.
