    Quinta do Mouro Trincadeira '15

    Quinta do Mouro Trincadeira '15

Quinta do Mouro is THE top producer of the Alentejo region, run by the incredibly humble and unique personality, Miguel Louro. When deciding between using his poker earnings to buy a sports car or a fixer-upper Quinta in Estremoz, Miguel chose the later, a bold move by someone in their 20's. Over the years, he has fixed up the Quinta, but more importantly worked hard to grow grapes that offer freshness within a very warm region. We love all of Miguel's wines, but are particularly excited when in good vintages he releases single varietal wines. How many times do you get a chance to taste Trincadeira? Trincadeira, also known as Tina Amarela in the Douro, is a native varietal to Portugal. It is prone to rot, so it is perfectly suited for dry, hot climates. It is also one of the oldest and more commonly grown varietals of Alentejo. It can be a finicky varietal, so it's no surprise for a genius like Miguel Louro to have mastered this grape so impeccable. Once in the winery, the wine is then aged for 12 months in new 300L French oak barrels. This wine is highly capable of aging for quite sometime, packed with dense, dark fruit and spice. The 2015 Trincadeira is a very special wine. This is the first release of a varietal Trincadeira by Mouro. Not a bad start! Gorgeous notes of wild strawberry mixed with dark berry fruits, cocoa, spice and woodsy tones. Full-bodied, but so impeccably fresh and balanced, that it shows itself as a seamless wine. Decant if drinking now, but ultimately this will age for 20+ years.
