Emilia Romagna
Monte delle Vigne, a producer situated just outside Parma, near the Taro river, was founded in 1983 by Andrea Ferrari, who realized the unique potential of the area. Today, he is recognized as one of the top producers near Parma, working from a single estate and farming organically. The Taro River Valley, which sits just to the west of Parma, is an ideal source for Malvasia di Candia. Malvasia is a grape that is often misunderstood. At its core, it is an aromatic variety that thrives in Mediterranean regions. While there are many great examples of dessert wines produced from Malvasia, the variety is usually produced as a dry white wine. Monte delle Vigne has built a reputation for quality Lambrusco, yet it is now equally well known for its wide range of still and sparkling Malvasia wines, one of which we’re excited to have here at the shop.
The Malvasia Spumante is a perfect sparkling wine to enjoy any day of the week. It is produced entirely from Malvasia di Candia, from vines averaging 30 years in age. The secondary fermentation is carried out through the Charmat method, which results in an incredibly aromatic sparkling wine with notes of white peach, apricot, almonds, and white flowers. Dry and crisp, it’s a great match for food—source some high-quality Prosciutto di Parma and Culatello, chill down a bottle of Malvasia Spumante, and your life will instantly be better.
