The history of Massolino is rooted in Serralunga d’Alba. The famed village of Barolo, in Piedmont, has been the family home since 1896, when Giovani Massolino started the estate. The fourth generation of Massolinos, Franco and Roberto, continue with care and respect for the tradition of their forefathers.
Made in the best vintages only, “Gisep” is a tribute to the Massolinos’ grandfather Giuseppe, who was essential to the development of the estate. The wine was first produced in 1998. “Gisep” is made solely from Barbera, and the grapes are selected from several vineyards with excellent exposure and low yields. The wine shows how spectacular Barbera can be, with unexpected opulence, complexity, and length.
Fermentation is temperature controlled in oak fermenters (tini), and élevage is partly in French oak barriques and large Slavonian oak casks for up to 18 months.
This is a wine that you can enjoy now, but it will also evolve over many years. Drink now through 2030+.
It is truly one of the greatest examples of Barbera that I have ever tried!
