Massolino is one of the great producers of the Barolo region. Based in the village of Serralunga d’Alba, the history of the estate dates back to 1896. Today, brothers Franco and Roberto Massolino are producing an exceptional line up of wines, including two different Barbera.
The 2022 Barbera d’Alba is prototypical example of the variety. Massolino takes the low-yielding Barbera from several different estate vineyard sources, mostly planted in more limestone rich soil. The wine is fermented and matured in stainless steel tanks. While Barbera can play nicely with oak, this cuvée is all about freshness of fruit, and showing the varietal in its purest form.
The year 2022 was a warm vintage, which results in a pretty opulent style of Barbera. On the nose, notes of dark cherry and plum can be found, alongside orange peel and sweet spice notes. This has an opulence and freshness that make it such a great choice for Thanksgiving. An excellent value!
