    Lupinc Vitovska '13

    Friuli Venezia Giulia

    Lupinc Vitovska '13

Lupinc is a small family estate winery, and its young, talented winemaker, Matej Lupinc, is the current generation and proprietor of a cellar that dates back to 1913 in Carso of Fruili, in Italy. Lupinc works with the classic native varieties of Carso – Vitovska, Malvasia Istriana, and Terrano. In 1970, they were one of the first to estate bottle for the area. This is a very hands on winery with, owner and winemaker, Matej Lupinc taking on the majority of the work in both the vineyard and the winery. In total, average production is around 20,000 bottles per year. This is a luminous region, offering great warmth, but with its proximity to the sea, where there are plenty of cool breezes. It is often so windy that producers will shield the vines with the most resistant and strongest vine, Vitovska. Vitovska is an indigenous varietal that is often seen here in Friuli and in its neighboring country, Slovenia. As tough as Vitovska is on the vine, as it is in the cellar. We had the opportunity to hold onto this wine to give you a chance to see their potential with age. The wine showcases powerful notes of minerality, white floral tones and hints of citrus fruit. The wine's notes are delicate, and the structure is brilliant since it's neither light nor full, there is a lightness exuded by its delicate notes but there is depth that lingers and comes through on the palate. When we first introduced this wine, it was in need of bottle age. We set some aside, waiting patiently for it to mature, and finally it is in a great place. This is a Perman exclusive, and we are proud to show how beautiful the white wines of Friuli can be, and how well they can develop in bottle.
