La Staffa Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi Classico Superiore '22

La Staffa Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi Classico Superiore '22

The Baldi family established La Staffa in 1994, in the northern Marche region, an area that is home to one of Italy’s classic white wines, Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi. The vineyards and winery are near the small town of Staffolo, about twenty miles southwest of Ancona. La Staffa has grown over the years, from producing just enough wine to satisfy the family’s needs to now managing about 30 acres of vineyards. Today, the winery is run by the Riccardo Baldi, who began making the wines in his early twenties, and who implemented biodynamic farming practices in all the vineyards—no chemical herbicides, pesticides, or fertilizers in the vineyards. The wines are produced only with grapes harvested from estate-owned vineyards.

The grapes for La Staffa’s Verdicchio di Castelli di Jesi are organically grown in limestone-clay soils, at an elevation of about 400 meters (1,300 feet). The high-altitude vineyards help preserve acidity throughout the growing season. The grapes are fermented with indigenous yeasts in a combination of stainless steel and cement tanks, with cool temperature control for about two weeks. The wine is bottled in the spring after harvest, and after aging on the fine lees for about six months. The wine in is very lightly filtered.

Bright and crisp, with complex notes of citrus, peach pit, mint, and wet stone. Vibrant and refreshing, this keeps you coming back glass after glass. Verdicchio is great as a dry aperitif, or pair it with a range of seafood dishes, seafood pastas, or roast chicken.
