La Marca di San Michele "Capovolto" Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi '21

La Marca di San Michele "Capovolto" Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi '21

The La Marca di San Michele estate, in Cupramontana, is run by the sibling team of Alessandro Bonci, Beatrice Bonci, and Daniela Quaresima. They are thoughtful and progressive, distinguishing themselves from many of their neighbors through practices such as growing their six hectares of Verdicchio vines entirely organically and bottling unfiltered. Cupramontana is the historical birthplace of Verdicchio production in Le Marche, and the region’s first vineyards were registered in the land office here in 1471. Camaldolite monks began viticulture here many centuries earlier in 1186, in the area of San Michele, a rural frazione bordering Cupramontana.

La Marca di San Michele works wonders with the Verdicchio grape, showing its potential to make one of the most exciting white wines of Italy. La Marca produces two main white wines, and this one, the DOC Verdicchio di Castelli di Jesi Classico Superiore called “Capovolto,” is made from 30-year-old vines grown on limestone hillsides, climbing the foothills of the Apennine mountains facing east, toward the Adriatic sea. The wine was was aged for seven months in stainless steel tanks.

This wine embodies the freshness that characterizes the best Verdicchio wines and is well suited to drinking with so many foods—serve it alongside salads, pasta and rice dishes, and shellfish or baked fish. An absolutely stunning Verdicchio!
