    La Comarcal "Delmoro" Tinto '19

    La Comarcal "Delmoro" Tinto '19

It is difficult to believe that in such a well-known wine producing country like Spain, there are still emerging regions to be discovered. One such place is that of Valencia. This distinctly Mediterranean-influenced region is particularly suited to Rhône varieties. A perfect introduction to the red wine of Valencia is through the lens of Javi Revert and Victor Marqués of La Comarcal Viticultores. The duo met while working at Celler del Roure, one of the leading wineries in the region. In 2017 they launched their own winery, focusing on grapes from old mountain vineyards and local grape varieties. The first release to the United States of “Delmoro” is a truly exciting introduction. Composed of 85% Garnacha and 15% Syrah, the grapes come from vineyards near the village of Venta del Moro, with the age of the vines between 15 and 50 years old. The grapes are hand harvested, 70% destemmed and crushed, while the other 30% are vinified as whole bunches. The grapes are fermented separately in stainless steel, and then aged in a combination of stainless steel and concrete. The 2019 is a very fresh style of “Delmoro” tinto, with more high-toned cherry notes, to go along with hints of cracked pepper and wild thyme. While the wine is distinctly medium bodied, its freshness makes it easy to come back to glass after glass. This would be a great foil for duck confit.
