Kristinus "Siller" Red, Balatonboglar '21
The Kristinus property is on the southwest shores of Lake Balaton, Hungary, the largest lake in central Europe. Here, the Winemaker Florian Zaruba works with his partner, Janka, to run the estate, established in 2005 and currently around 55 hectares in size. They have practiced biodynamic farming since 2018, and the property includes farmland, orchards, and pastures.
“Siller” is made from 100% Zweigelt, an Austrian variety that is a crossing of the Blaufränkisch and St. Laurent grapes, and stylewise falls between a rosé and a red. It was macerated on the skins for 36 hours, was fermented with indigenous yeasts in tank, and was then bottled without fining or filtration after eight months on the fine lees. Fresh and juicy, it’s great served with a slight chill.
