Champagne
Located in Ludes, on the northern side of the Montagne de Reims region, the family estate of Huré Frères cultivates about 10 hectares (24.7 acres) of land scattered among several villages in the area, planted to Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier. The brothers François and Pierre Huré practice organic viticulture as well as biodynamic methods, adapting their approach to each parcel to best express its character. They take the same approach in the cellar, vinifying each parcel separately, using a mix of steel tanks, large oak foudres, and small oak barrels, fermenting the wines with natural yeast, and allowing them to rest sur lattes for extended periods.
“Invitation” is a great introduction to the Huré Frères style. It’s a blend of 50% Pinot Noir, 30% Meunier, and 20% Chardonnay, from vines with an average age of 35 years. The grapes are grown in Ludes, Villedommange, and Vitry. Reserve wine accounts for about a third of the blend, and there are separate vinifications according to each village, variety, and parcel. Primary aging is carried out mostly in tanks and, for a small portion, in large-format barrels, with partial malolactic fermentation. The wine is aged for 32 months sur lattes and was disgorged in March 2024. Dosage is four grams per liter.
What I love about this Champagne is its ability to please a wide range of palates. Beautiful aromas of baked apples, mineral and a hint at pastry cream. Round and generous on the palate, yet lightweight and fresh. The finish is long, dry and makes you come back for sip after sip. What more could you want from a great "everyday" Champagne! Bravo!
