Marlborough
Huia was founded in 1996 by Mike and Claire Allan, who planted their first vines that year and were focused on practicing organic viticulture. Although the winery is now under different ownership, the wines continue to be made as thoughtfully as ever. The Grüner Veltliner is a single-vineyard wine from the Kennedy Road Vineyard, in the Hawkesbury Valley, with stony clay soils. The grapes were hand-harvested, and the wine was fermented with native yeasts, in stainless steel tank for a long, cool ferment. This is a refreshing dry wine, with lively floral, apple, and citrus notes. On the palate, it is medium bodied, lively, and fresh, with bright acidity.
