Southern Rhône
The Jaume family has been growing grapes in the Southern Rhône since 1826. It is based in the commune of Orange, in the northern part of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The domaine is run by the fifth and sixth generations, Alain and his children, Christophe, Sébastien, and Hélène. They work across a variety of appellations in the Southern Rhône, farming organically, with low yields and, for their best wines, a strict selection of only the best grapes. The wines are classic and traditional, showing well in their youth but capable of aging.
The 2019 Grand Veneur Côtes du Rhône is a blend of 70% Grenache, 20% Syrah, and 10% Cinsault. The grapes are destemmed and fermented with native yeasts, then matured in tank, which helps preserve the fresh fruit and spice notes of the varieties. The nose offers classic Rhône aromas of red and dark berries, black pepper, anise, and garrigue. On the palate, the wine is medium-plus in body, with medium tannins and a palate-cleansing acidity that keeps the wine fresh and versatile for everyday drinking.
