Goodfellow Family Cellars Pinot Noir, Willamette Valley '18

Goodfellow Family Cellars Pinot Noir, Willamette Valley '18

If ever there was an overachieving Pinot Noir, it’s Goodfellow’s Willamette Valley bottling. We carry a few of Goodfellow’s wines, including several bottles from its single-vineyard range, and we’re thrilled to be able to include this one in the wine club.

Goodfellow was founded in 2002 and makes only 4,000 cases of wine a year, all from sustainably farmed grapes in the valley. While the Willamette Valley as a region is sometimes described as a middle ground for California and Burgundian styles of Pinot Noir, and those can be helpful reference points especially when trying to please a range of people, it’s also celebrated for the distinctive, high-quality examples of the variety that have been made here for decades.

We love Goodfellow’s Pinot Noir for its balance of ripe fruit and savory notes, and its moderate tannins, vibrant acidity, and modest 13% ABV. Black tea leaf, red licorice, and soft earthy notes add depth to the red fruit notes on the nose. With that winning combination of aromatics and structure, the wine is easily paired with meats, seafood, and vegetables. Try it with roasted squash or mushrooms, grilled salmon, or pork with cranberry sauce. An excellent value, it’s hard not to fall for this wine.
