Goodfellow Family Cellars Pinot Gris "Franc de Pied" '21
Goodfellow was founded in 2002 and continues to be a small producer, focusing on old-vine plantings in unique and beautiful sites throughout the Willamette Valley. Goodfellow makes only 4,000 cases of wine a year. The wines are all sourced from non-irrigated, sustainably farmed grapes in Oregon’s Willamette Valley. There is great pride in the longstanding relationships that Marcus has developed with various grower-farmers, and their accumulated knowledge, experience, commitment and sacrifice are the foundation of the winery. In the winery, Marcus keeps things simple and traditional, which is the best way to capture the unique expression of each vineyard.
While Oregon and Goodfellow may be known more for Pinot Noir production, Marcus is a true talent when it comes to producing white wine. This delicious white wine comes from the Resplendor Vineyard, which Marcus also refers to as the Tsai Vineyard, as it is owned by Cheryl Tsai. This is a very unique and special vineyard for several reasons. First, the vines are own rooted, around 20 years in age, making this vineyard one of the few in the area in the “Franc de Pied” style. Secondly, the soils are Jory, which is unusual for Yamhill-Carlton AVA. It is a great site for white varieties and Pinot Noir alike.
Marcus ferments in old 500-liter acacia puncheon as well as two older barriques. The wine is bottled after spending eight months on its lees. Only 65 cases were produced.
Beautiful aromas of fresh pear, white flowers, and hazelnut. Fresh and vibrant, with a soft textural element and great balance. This is a terrific wine to bring to your favorite sushi BYO.
